Touch -- More Learning Gestures, Please!

What new Learning Gestures would be cool? The iPAD leverages multi-touch that has pioneered by Jeff Han.  Starting with the iPhone we became use to using these two touches/gestures:
  • Move Fingers Apart - Graphic Grows Larger
  • Move Fingers Together - Graphic Shrinks
And, we have the gesture of moving our finger across the iBook from left or right and it turns the page back or forward.  But, we are only getting started!

What new Learning Gestures would be cool?  Imagine if we had a gesture of moving our finger like a ? that would indicate that we are confused and want more (eg. additional content, more context, link to a FAQ or even an immediate video chat with an expert).

So, let's start a brainstorm of other Learning Gestures that would be helpful to learners as they work with content and activities online?  Add it as a comment below.

    Neat topic.

I'd love to see 2 gestures....

    * Translate - perhaps it is a double tap or something like that would trigger a translation (either text to text or a dub over).

    * Thumbs Up! A simple way of rating the value of a piece of content. (of course, there could also be thumbs down)

  2. I'm looking ahead and want to be able to do the following:

Role Switcher - Touch a video and walk in the other person's shoes ... e.g. I am learning how to manage a situation would be nice to jump into the other person's head and see and hear their reaction to what I just did

Help Chooser - Be able to choose level of HELP screen I need - simple quick how-to do it; more complex how-to do it with a why, when and because; online learning segment if I never learned (or forgot) what to do

  3. > give me more information
? I have a question (leads me to a FAQ or online proctor if available)
N let me make annotations for future use (self annotated learning environments should allow me to save private to public notes)

  4. Earlier on, before the iPad, there was a viral video going around of a tablet PC with a circle an object to copy it to your clipboard feature.

  5. There are other gesture commands on the iPhone - holding your finger in place over the icons places them in a mode to move or delete them.

  6. Speed - Slow Down or Speed Up the presentation of the content.

  7. A simple question mark across the screen should bring up help. Or even indicate a word and then question mark to explain and define.

Need a gesture for 'drill down' may be a spiral gesture which would throw up a whole bunch of links in multi-media for the user to select.

Agree that a rating system like thumbs up would be good. And a simple way to comment: draw a square with both fingers together then one moving left round the square and one moving right.

  8. Slide left to right or right to left to speed up or slow down

Slide up/down to raise volume of a lesson or reduce volume.

The pinch/expand motion could further be used to shrink a content window to expose other tools (notes, related content/lessons, etc.) and similarly hide those tools and expand the lesson to full screen.

  9. A 'check mark' gesture to 'done' could be useful.

'Spiral out' gesture to gradiently increase audio. 'Spiral in' to gradiently decrease audio. These would be helpful since the volume control is slightly awkwardly positioned when the iPad is in a protective cover.
